Been a while...

Nothing is more true than that statement. I have been a little lax over the last couple months with getting written stuff up but with the Christmas season as well as New Year’s and have been fighting artist block to get a crossover completed for this year for several shows that Black Box Comix is going to be attending.
There are several pieces of work in progress even as we speak.
This is one such project.

Halloween is here Again

blackbox13's picture

Here is a new piece that I am working on for a friend of mine from Darkslinger Comics. And I thought since he (the bear) was a pieced together I thought a scratchboard image of him would be appropriate here for Halloween.
He kinda Frankensteined together.
Aren’t we all?

Is there something in the air?

Is there something in the air?
I have to wonder sometimes with all the cascading things going on right now with printing of artwork.
One of the worse things a comic creator and company or individual artist ever wants to ever hear from a printer is “You have corrupted files”.
Well this was something I as wanting to hear for anyone else let alone for myself but here it is.
The one thing is that everything is fixable (at least in the art field).
and that is one thing that I love about do artwork.
It can morphed and molded into what ever you want it to say or look.
But it can always be fixed.

A month gone by and New Stuff

blackbox13's picture

Well sports fans it has been nearly a month since I last posted and I have been under a great strain to get things done as well as move the office of Black Box Comix to a new location here in Portland Oregon.
Actually not that hard to do really when a lot of things are already done digitally but there are some new thing to rave about:

A comic shop grand opening

blackbox13's picture

One of the few things that I like when I have the chance is to check out a new comic shop that I never have been to. And Especially when you have been invited to show and sell your artwork in the process.
Yes, it is like taking candy from a baby but art whores are always gunning for the best way to get (easy) money back for their work. Today will be no different.
I would imagine that a comic shop would be like a street corner for vendors (whores) and collectors (the johns).
Of course I am sure that not everyone is in agreement about this but oh well, don’t be so damn touchy.
But again hanging out in a comic shop and being a nerd is always fun. And if I make some sales in the process of even better, that's what I am hoping for.

Work and Life

Comic Book work especially the digital stuff, has been a up hill battle for me between working on traditional media and the commissions I have been doing for people lately. Home and real life BS has been making a huge indent on my productivity of art.
It’s been unfortunate that a character that I have a lot of love for has been taking the brunt of the this, always having to take a back seat to the flavor of the week
There are a lot of changes that will be coming up in the next several issues for him and now that I may have found a new editior that may actually do the work for me and not just do it when I chain them to a table and crack the whip, may actually improve my artistic output and with changes in the home living situation, and a place of my own, a small studio apartment,

The Last Weekend and other

blackbox13's picture

The last week has been something of a mind blower for me as the Black Box Comix really starts to make a push for getting work out there. Refocusing back on Johnny Vega #3 is back on schedule (such as is it is). This is a good thing since I had been hit up to do several other pieces of art for other small comic companies.
Nothing wrong with that kind of exposure I can say.
But nothing beats have a piece of original art leave home for the last time to hopefully find a new place (and appreciation) for the work. That all happened last week up Olympia Washington at the 8th Annual Olympia Comics Festival.
A small venue on what turned into a very nice day.
With artwork and books being sold I think I came out pretty good compared to my peers there.

New Things for the weekend

blackbox13's picture

Sorry this is just a re posting
Hey there sporst fans AL here with the latest:
We’ll this weekend we will be heading to a show back in Spokane Washington this Saturaday.
For more info check out this as http://spokanecomicon.com/.
This will be our first time there so I hope that it will be fun.
We will be hitching a ride along with our friends from Darkslinger Comics as well.
On top of that in just two weeks later another trip to Washington will be taking place in Olympia. Here is the info about that show http://olympiacomicsfestival.org/
So work has been slow on issue three of Johnny as has been for the last couple of months. But trust me it will be all worth while.
So I have been working on a few solo projects just outside of the Johnny Realm so take a look.

Another page down, 9 more left to go

Pages slowly come and go for the kid as I lock myself to the desk and digital tablet to work on issue number 3 of Johnny Vega. I guess some people see the potential of the work because they keep asking me to do a Johnny this story and a Johnny that cross over and the like.
I am extremely flattered by this and tells me that I may have struck paydirt with this character that I created nearly ten years ago.
To see how he comes together should be fun in the next several issues. Lots of personal growth.

As the days wind down

blackbox13's picture

Well things are getting under way for this weeks comic book show, The Stumptown Comic Fest here in Portland Or.
If you happen to be in town the days of April 18 - 19th please stop by, it would be great to see you.
Also you would get a chance to see all the actual pieces of art work that have been posted in their native enviorment.
The only draw back is that Johnny Vega Issue Three will not be ready for the show. Due to a few "real life" set backs, the release of the book has been pushed back a couple of months.  But I think that the issue will be awesome.  I am even impressing myself with this.
Keep watching for further details.
